They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I don’t disagree. I am a avid fan of all things breakfast! That’s not to say that am a chirpy energetic morning person, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact I think that I resemble a sloth than a human first thing in the morning. This poses quite a quandary, unfortunately my least favorite time of the day corresponds with my best loved meal of the day. Despite this conflict of interests, breakfast wins. Little can deter me from glorious scrumpciousness that the mornings have to offer. With this in mind I am on a mission to find the best place for Breakfast, reviewing local eateries and on occasion international ones too.
The Treasury, Catherine Street Plymouth, Devon PL1 2AD
First time I had visited this establishment (better associated with cocktails) was last weekend. Really good first impression, lovely and attentive staff with a fairly varied breakfast selections. I chose eggs Benedict with ham which was delicious, poached eggs were perfect, plenty of ham- didn’t need to eat lunch as the portion was ample. Only criticism was that I wasn’t holy convinced that the Hollandaise was home made, other than that I thought it was a really good deal with bottomless coffee to boot. Breakfast for two cost £12. Mills Bakery, 3 Bakehouse, Royal William Yard, Plymouth, PL1 3RP
Great atmosphere, the Mills bakery has a real feel of community. It’s not a traditional service/ waited eatery but once you get into the swing of the concept it’s good fun. A home from home. The clue is in the name when it comes to the menu, pain au chocolat, muesli, bolied eggs and as much toast as you can eat. If you are looking for a breakfast full of baked goods then this is the place for you. Personally, for me there just wasn’t enough variety on the menu but the atmosphere defiantly made up for it. Looking forward to trying out lunch. Rated (3/5)
Montys, 13 The Barbican, Plymouth, Devon, PL1 2ls
Montys I have come to realize is popular for a reason. Great breakfast staples feature on a reliably familiar menu. Presentation is always good and the staff friendly. Because the place is always busy, be prepared to wait for your order to arrive but hey its a Sunday morning so a lazy breakfast isn’t so bad? Good family vibe, great place to go with little ones. Not so great if you’re looking for a more refined breakfast experience. Rated (3/5)
